For industrial users in parts of the Rotterdam area (Botlek and Europort) Evides Industriewater supplies distilled water to selected users by means of a dedicated, redundant pipeline network. This distilled water can serve both as boiler feedwater and process water.
The total yearly supply of distilled water amounts to more than 7 million m³. This water is produced by means of evaporators (MED), which make use of residual heat released as a result of the combustion of liquid waste.
As of 2010 distilled water will be replaced by demineralised water, which will be produced in the new DWP plant. Designed, erected and operated by Evides Industriewater, this plant will treat surface water from a nearby fresh water lake (back-up: drinking water) by means of a combination of membrane filtration and ion exchange technology to produce demineralised water. The quality of the product as well as the reliabiity of the design of the plant will meet the requirements of the chemical industry and refineries in the Rotterdam region during many years to come. The demineralised water will be supplied to clients by means of the extisting, dedicetd piping network.
