summary
The WWTP of Schiphol Airport is located at the eastern side of the airport. This plant biologically purifies approximately 4,000 m3 of waste water daily to a final quality that fully qualifies for discharge into the local waterways.
Based on a long-term contract with the airport authority of Schiphol Nederland BV, Evides Industriewater has assumed responsibility for treating the waste water. By using the expertise of Evides Industriewater the Utility Services department of Schiphol Nederland BV is able to focus on the core business: energy supply at Schiphol.
waste water treatment as fully outsourced service
Until the end of 2003 the Utility Services department of Schiphol Nederland BV provided all utilities. Consequent on privatisation of the energy market US focussed on the supply of energy, water and waste water.
As a consequence the airport authority decided to engage a party which was prepared to take over the waste water treatment for a longer period and which was equipped with the knowledge and experience to guarantee continuity. Based on a long-term contract with the airport authority of Schiphol, Evides Industriewater has assumed responsibility for treating the wastewater on behalf of US.
The WWTP of Schiphol Airport is located at the eastern side of the airport. This plant biologically purifies approximately 4,000 m3 of waste water daily to a final quality that fully qualifies for discharge into the local waterways. The effluent volume from Schiphol Airport is comparable to that of a small city with a population of 45,000.
About half of the waste water originates from passengers and businesses at the airport (Amsterdam Airport Schiphol), 25% is discharged by aircraft and catering (KLM), and the remaining volume is produced by other aviation-related businesses located around the Schiphol area. In addition, the WWTP treats water originating from various groundwater decontamination projects around the airport.
project details
The design of the WWTP was based on a low loaded aerobic active sludge process. At the Schiphol WWTP, the waste water flows through the intake screens into the selector. This is where the waste water flow is split and fed into two identical biological treatment lines.
