When Evides decided in 2007 to build the Botlek demineralised water plant to replace the supply of distilled water, one of the main questions was:
what will the production capacity of the new plant be?
During the visits that Evides paid to all existing distilled water customers, Evides asked them not only if they wanted to purchase water from the new demineralised water plant (DWP), but also what their future expectations were in terms of demand for demineralised water.
Evides concluded that not much would change during the start-up period and that overall demand would amount to approx. 900m3/h, but that demand would increase to approx. 1,400m3/h after about five years.
It was now up to Evides:
are we going to build on the basis of the future, or on the basis of secured sales and add capacity later if needed? Evides Industriewater decided to build the full capacity in one go.
Now, a year and a half later, after the first test deliveries on the demineralised water network have been made, we have sold almost all of the capacity of 1,400m3/h. BP recently signed a 10-year period supply agreement in which it has laid down its growth forecasts.
Also, various buyers have decided to purchase more demineralised water and new business has been added.
By looking ahead and with the vision to supply the port of Rotterdam with high-quality water services, Evides Industriewater has proven to be able to bind all of the big clients by means of long-term contracts.
So now it is time to look ahead again, and to determine how we can provide the same industrial water services to the new clients that will undoubtedly come (let us not forget the second Maasvlakte).
