Demonstration plant in China has started up

21/05/2010 16:00
At the moment, Evides Industriewater and NethWater are starting up a mobile demonstration plant in China which will reprocess 30 cubic metres of treated wastewater an hour into process water. The plant will be used on the site of Beiyuan, a PVC manufacturer in Jinjie (near Yulin), in the northern province of Shaanxi. The plant will be officially taken into use on 2 June 2010.

The north of China suffers from terrible droughts, which means that water for the chemical industry has become a scarce means of production. As a result, recycling water such as effluent is an absolute necessity. NethWater and Evides Industriewater have very good experiences with the recycling of wastewater for the production of process water. Evides has been using effluent from the municipality of Terneuzen for the production of demineralised water for Dow Chemical on a large scale for years now. Also, Terneuzen will soon see the completion of a MBR plant (Membrane Bio Reactor), as a result of which the production process of demineralised water for the industry using high-quality effluent will be even more efficient.

The experiences with these sort of projects and technologies will come in handy during the development of recycling projects in China. In order to learn more about the local situation and to be able to test the technology in different locations, NethWater and Evides Industriewater decided to set up a mobile demo plant in China, which was built by DWS (Dow Water Solutions). Its scale (30m3/h) is more than enough to be able to use the results for the upgrade to full-scale. Chemical plants will be built on a large scale in the north of China in the next few years. These plants will produce chemicals, among other things, on the basis of coal-processing. Through the demo plant, NethWater and Evides Industriewater want to show how they can use their expertise for partnerships with industrial bulk consumers, by taking over the production of high-quality process water from wastewater by means of long-term DBFO/BOT contracts.
