Effluent from waste water treatment facilities is in fact process water. While it may be process water of rather variable quality, it nevertheless qualifies for re-use as process water for industrial applications and water for agricultural purposes by means of recycling or effluent polishing. It can also serve as a source for conversion into demineralised water.
Various technologies are available for purifying effluent into high-quality process water, which may be combined, depending on the application.
Over the past decades, Evides Industriewater has gained a wealth of experience in the application of membrane technology (MF, UF and RO). The biggest effluent reuse plant of the Netherlands is at Dow Benelux (Terneuzen). As of the end of 2009 high-quality final effluent of a 600 m3/hr MBR at the municipal WWTP of the town of Terneuzen is being used as feed of a RO-plant at our DECO plant. This plant produces demineralised water for supply to Dow Chemical.
