In June 2010 Evides Industriewater finalised a contract with E.on to provide its two existing power stations and the one that is going to be constructed the first Maasvlakte, with high quality demineralised water from Evides’ demineralised water pipelines. These will be supplied with demineralised water that will be produced in the large, central Demineralised Water Plant (DWP) at Botlek. Here the water from the Brielse Meer, which is in the vicinity, will be desalinated in seven process stages (coagulation, flotation, sand filtration, softening, vertical RO, RO and mixing bed ion exchange) until it is ultra pure and has a conductivity of < 0.2 μS. Evides’ demineralised water network supplies demineralised water to 16 chemical companies and three refineries in Rijnmond. At a distance of approx. 30 km from the DWP, BP’s refinery was until recently Evides’ most westerly customer for demineralised water. Because E.on was convinced of the high quality of the demineralised water and decided to purchase its demineralised water instead of expanding its own production, the demineralised water network had to be extended to the west by a total of 10 km.
Laying the pipeline is in full swing and Evides will supply approximately 100 m3 of demineralised water per hour to E.on from 1 December 2011. The projected route of the demineralised water pipeline runs from the Markweg by BP, via the pipework strip to the E.on power station on the Europaweg. It will pass the Hartelkanaal en route which will be tunnelled under by means of boring horizontally.

A pipeline for transporting water from the Brielse Meer to E.on will be laid at the same time as the demineralised water pipeline is being laid to the first Maasvlakte. This pipeline will be 1,700 metres in length and will run parallel with the demineralised water pipeline to the E.on station.

Both pipelines will also make it possible to link the newly laid second Maasvlakte to Evides’ water networks. Preparations are going ahead for laying the pipeline. The dimensions of the pipelines on the first Maasvlakte in the direction of E.on are such that it will be possible to hand over the second Maasvlakte in due course. It is expected that water for fire fighting and industry water will be available on this newest piece of The Netherlands from the end of 2012.
