A small ceremony was held on 22 September 2011 to celebrate the official commissioning of the new process and demineralised water plants for BASF in Antwerp. At 14:00 hrs, Wouter de Geest, BASF Antwerp’s chairman of the board and Peter Vermaat pushed a button to start a film that explained the large-scale project. The new plants were engineered and constructed by Evides Industriewater and will produce and supply all the process water (1,400 m3/u) to the BASF site until 2026. In the new demineralised water plant 440 m3 per hour will be desalinated into ultra-pure water that complies with the most stringent TOC requirements for steam generation. In the future this process water plant - which purifies river water into process water - will be capable of providing the whole of the northern port area of Antwerp with sustainable process water that has supply security.

Evides Industriewater will provide the operational management for the plants with its own personnel. Careful attention has been paid in the design – from the sources used through to the infrastructure, the on-site connections and the plants’ reserve capacity - to ensure that there are sufficient guarantees to ensure maximum security of supply.
With the commissioning of the plants at BASF, Evides Industriewater continues to build on its more than 15-year track record for water services to the petrochemical and chemical industries. With its focus on supply security, safety and innovation, Evides Industriewater has grown during that period to become the leading industry water supplier in Western Europe. The services involve the entire water cycle, production of process water, waste water treatment and reuse of effluent. In order to achieve this, Evides has realised leading edge, made-to-measure plants that include Dow Chemical (Terneuzen, Hamburg), Shell (Rotterdam), DuPont (Dordrecht) and Yara (Sluiskil). Its own operators and process technologists look after the rules of procedure. In order to achieve this, Evides has entered into long-term Design, Build, Finance and Operate contracts with the industry and this has resulted in Evides being the industry’s water partner that guarantees the provision of water to its customers 24/7.
